In That Space

lauren says her heart's like a garage
there are places where the people that she loves can park themselves
and some of them have signs that say 'this space is reserved'
while the others come and go and leave no trace

let me put my four wheels in that space

on the ground are stains from where they've been
disrespectful of the care that she has lavished on their place
removing ashtray litter
and the gasket-leaked-out-mess they left there
just before they drove away with haste

let me put my four wheels in that space

every time she has to have somebody towed away
she contemplates the mess that's left and
nothing and nothing and nothing and nothing and nothing
can take that away...

every now and then a car comes by
and it's someone who is grateful for the love that she will give
they take care of the place they have
respectful of the owner
who is glad for confirmation of her taste

let me put my four wheels in that space
