The Jordans

Katydid

katy did just what we expected
when she went away after school
I've got nothing against
what katy did next

and she says "I am what you see here"
and she says "the times they may change me"
but there's nothing in the world
that'll change the way I feel

that's the way to learn how to live
wait until the morning

cross the fields of yellow and amber
katy strides and she's leaving a wake
she laughs at the stars and writes a page
in every greyhaired farmer's diary

where she's been the flowers are brighter now
there's an unfamiliar scent in the air
her hair is flaxen gold and they see her sometimes
glowing in the sun after rain

that's the way to learn how to live
wait until the morning comes
that's no way to learn how to give
the world looks at its own face and runs
